A practical Knoxville parking guide for downtown events, Market Square, Gay Street, the Old City and UT-area trips. Normal rates can change for major events, so this page pairs the useful everyday rules with the official sources that should make the final call.
The everyday parking rules
City-owned garages are generally free Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. and free on weekends. Market Square Garage is the exception on Saturdays, when the City lists a $3 flat rate. Special-event rates can override normal pricing.
City on-street spaces are paid from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with free parking overnight and all day Sunday. Knoxville uses ParkMobile for on-street payment.
The City lists a normal $1-per-hour rate with a $7 daily maximum at several major downtown garages. Event pricing may differ when posted.
Downtown Knoxville and the Tennessee Theatre publish nearby-garage guidance for major downtown destinations. Event pages on LocalKnox use those stable venue relationships when we can identify the venue.
Football, arena events and other high-demand dates can use special traffic patterns and event parking. LocalKnox will direct those events to the current official event plan instead of pretending normal downtown rules always apply.
How parking appears on event pages
Every first-party event page includes a parking section. When we can confidently identify a major venue or district, the page shows the most relevant stable parking pattern for that location. For large sports, arena, festival or special-event dates, we deliberately avoid guessing and send you to the current organizer or city plan.
This gives you a useful starting point without turning an older parking article into bad directions on the night you actually need it.
