What Fort Sanders & Cumberland feels like
Fort Sanders and the Cumberland Avenue corridor sit between Downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee campus. The area mixes historic residential streets, student housing, restaurants, campus life and some of the city’s biggest event-day crowds.
Fort Sanders has deep Civil War and neighborhood history, while Cumberland Avenue is the commercial spine most visitors encounter. On ordinary weekdays it functions as a campus district; on football Saturdays and major university events, traffic, parking and pedestrian patterns change completely.
